Greenport Basin and Construction
Bowline Newsletters
c1942, 1943, 1944, & 1945
WWII contributions of the North Fork are beautifully depicted through The Bowline, Greenport Basin & Construction Company’s monthly newsletter. We have a collection of issues from 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945. Striking is the recognition given to every individual’s commitment to the war effort. Included are biographies of workers in their various trades that ensure the successful completion of ships built at the Greenport Basin & Construction Co. with VICTORY their goal. Honor is given to former G.B.&C. Employees through their letters to the editor or when visiting home as they prepare to head out. Thank you to a local history buff and collector, Susano Jiminez, for this wonderful donation. Mr. Jiminez is a Greenport resident and long-time employee of what is now the Greenport Yacht & Shipbuilding Co. who posted pictures of The Bowline to Facebook, as a method of sharing the Shipyard’s military history. Mr. Jiminez got this collection from Dave Berson, who found them at a Greenport yard sale. We thank Mr. Jiminez for recognizing the Library’s dedication to preservation and mission to provide access now and for future generations. c2023
